IMPORTANT
POWER MACINTOSH COMPUTERS: Due to a design change in the serial ports on these computers, an extension called ASFU Fixer must be installed to be compatible with the PowerPrint Cable. To install this extension during the PowerPrint installation follow the instructions as they appear in the manual (chapter 3) until step #6. Before clicking on the Install button, hold down the shift key on the keyboard and keep it held down while you click on the "ASFU Fixer Extension" option in the scrolling list. This will select BOTH the extension AND the driver package you want to be installed. Once you have done this, click on the "Install" button and continue to follow the instructions from step #6 on.
QUADRA 840AV, 660AV AND CENTRIS 660AV COMPUTERS: Due to a design change in the modem port of these computers, we recommend connecting the PowerPrint cable to the printer port. If you MUST connect the PowerPrint cable to the modem port then follow the instructions above for installing the ASFU Extension on Power Macintosh Computers.

GENERAL:
INSTALLATION: All the disks which are supplied with PowerPrint may NOT be required during the installation. The installer calculates which disks are necessary for the driver(s) you select and will prompt you only for those disks.
PRINTER REFERENCE STACK: Most printers come pre-configured from the factory with the correct settings to work with PowerPrint when using the PowerPrint Cable. Use the Printer Reference Stack if you have changed the settings on your printer or suspect that a printer is not set to the manufacturer's original settings. If your printer is not listed in the stack and the settings on the printer have been changed, refer to the printer's reference manual for instructions on how to check them. To view this stack you will require version 2.0 (or higher) of HyperCard and at least 2 Mb of RAM. Because of restrictions within HyperCard, we recommend that you allocate 1750K (or as much as possible) to HyperCard. Do this by selecting the HyperCard icon from the Desktop (Finder) and select "Get Info" from the File menu. Put a value of 1750 in the "Current size" field at the bottom of the window and then close the window.

MANUAL NOTES:
PAGE 24, INSTALLATION: The installer has been changed so that it now restarts the computer after the installation is complete. This differs from what is described in step 6 and the note which follows it. This section should read as follows;
6. CLICK ON THE INSTALL BUTTON. The files which you selected will be installed into your computer. Follow the instructions which appear on the screen. When the installation is complete, an alert will be displayed to notify you that the installation was successful. Click on the Restart button to exit the installer and restart your Macintosh. Once your computer has restarted, you may continue on to step 7 on page 24.
NOTE: If you wish to install more than one PowerPrint driver, you should select all the necessary items before clicking on the Install button. Do this by holding down the shift key while clicking on multiple items.
PRINTER COMPATIBILITY LIST: The PANASONIC KXP-4450 printer is incorrectly listed as supported. Due to some problems with the LaserJet emulation used in this printer, it is NOT supported with PowerPrint. Also, the CANON BJ-230 printer is listed with the wrong driver recommended. We recommend using the Canon BJC-600 driver with this printer.

PRINTER DRIVER NOTES:
CANON LBP: When printing in draft mode, or in graphics mode with "Fast Text" turned on, not all characters in the Macintosh character set are available in all Canon fonts, so another Canon font will be used instead when necessary. However, capital-Y-umlaut is not supported by any of the Canon fonts, so capital-Y without an umlaut is printed instead.
LASERJET 4: We recommend a minimum of 4 Mb RAM installed in the printer for 600dpi printing. Very good quality output can obtained with 2 Mb RAM installed by printing at 300dpi and using resolution enhancement.

APPLICATION NOTES:
BRODERBUND, TYPESTYLER 2.0: Most documents created in TypeStyler require a large amount of memory to be available while being printed. For this reason, if background printing is used with this application it could result in portions of the page not being printed. To correct this either print with background printing turned off or increase the amount of memory allocated to SpoolMaster in the Finder's "Get Info" box (500K is enough for most graphics).
CLARIS, FILEMAKER PRO: Only the first page of a multiple page document can be previewed. All pages of the document will print.

OTHER NOTES:
Documents not printing or not printing correctly: If you experience problems while printing with background printing (SpoolMaster) on, try turning it off. When printing large or complicated documents, more memory may be available to the printer driver in the foreground application (e.g. Canvas, TypeStyler) than in SpoolMaster. To ensure these documents print correctly, print in the foreground (by turning background printing off) or increase the amount of memory used by SpoolMaster by typing a higher value in the Finder's "Get Info" box (500K is a nice number).

HINTS FOR BETTER PRINTING:
All drivers:
FONTS: Use Adobe Type Manager or TrueType fonts for the best possible output of type when printing in graphics mode. If your text is printing bit-mapped (blocky) then you are probably not using one of these standard outline font technologies. TrueType is built into System 7 or is available free of charge as an extension which can be added to System 6.0.7 and 6.0.8. Contact your local Apple dealer or Adobe directly for more information on these technologies.
Dot Matrix drivers:
Most printers do not accurately feed paper when using tractor-fed paper. This can leave white bands running through the printed document. For better output try setting your printer to friction feed, select manual feed and feed the paper in by hand. Although this is slower, it will give you a much cleaner print out from most dot matrix printers.
Canon LBP driver:
Turn on the "Fast Text" option in the Print dialog to increase the speed of text printing in graphics mode when using fonts that are built into the printer. Text positioning may not be exactly the same as when Fast Text is off, but it will be very close with most applications.

UPGRADING from an earlier version of PowerPrint, JetLink Express, or PrintLink Collection?
REQUIREMENTS: Please note that System 6.0.7 or higher is required for PowerPrint. If you have an earlier version of the System software installed on your Macintosh, you should contact your local Apple dealer for an update.
FONTS: PowerPrint fully supports the use of the industry standard outline fonts which include Apple’s TrueType and Adobe’s Type Manager fonts. We recommend the use of either of these standardized font technologies to achieve the best possible output from your printer. To avoid font confusion and to keep the size of the drivers to a minimum, support for GDT Outline (Basic and Expressive) fonts is not built into PowerPrint. However, TrueType is built into System 7 or is available to System 6 users from local Apple dealers.
REMOVING: Before installing this version of PowerPrint you must remove old versions of our drivers and any of their associated files that are present in your System folder. These files include PrintMaster, PrintLauncher, PrintLauncher Startup, the PrintMaster Folder, SpoolMaster, SpoolLauncher, SpoolLauncher Startup, and the SpoolMaster Folder.
